General Compounding
Therban - LANXESS' high-performance HNBR elastomer, is shipped to the customers in 25 kg bales. They are individually wrapped into plastic film printed with a bar code to provide clear identification until being stripped, which means the black film had to be cut off and removed manually before mixing.
Recently introduced was a blue wrapping film instead of the conventional black one. It consists of a special, low-melting polyethylene which no longer has to be removed before mixing. A clever idea with many advantages: clear identification of each bale right to the mixing unit, no more time-consuming, manual unwrapping, no more film wastes.
The polyethylene, due to its high degree of molecular similarity, is homogeneously compounded. It makes up less than 0,2 percent by weight of the final Therban compound and does not affect any of its properties.
With or without the wrapping film - the quality of the finished articles is identical - just the workflow becomes much easier with the blue film.
